Alongside its spectacular color, it offers a beautifully delicate texture and a distinct, nutty flavor that pairs perfectly with white wines, seafood, or fresh spring salads. Cultivated on a substantial 2.5 kg block, this striking mushroom prefers cooler temperatures to fruit, making it an excellent and highly rewarding project for a cool room or the crisper months of the year.

Description

Growkit Instructions:

Step 1

Unbox the Block: Open your grow kit box to reveal the 2.5 kg plastic-wrapped substrate block (approx. 12.5 x 30 x 20 cm), fully incubated and ready for the fruiting stage.

Step 2

Make the Cut: Using a clean, sharp knife, cut an “X” shape (about 5 cm wide) directly into the side of the plastic wrap. Keep the rest of the plastic intact to hold in the moisture.

Step 3

The Initial Mist: Fill a spray bottle with fresh tap water and generously mist the “X” cut to awaken the mycelium.

Step 4

Find a Cool, Bright Spot: This is key for the Yellow Oyster! Place the kit in a location that gets plenty of bright, indirect daylight, but where the temperature consistently stays cool—ideally between 10°C and 15°C.

Step 5

Mist Daily: Spray the “X” opening 2 to 3 times every day. Yellow Oysters require high humidity to form their delicate, beautiful caps.

Step 6

Watch for Golden Pins: Keep a close eye on the cut. Soon, you will see tight clusters of bright, golden-yellow pins emerging from the opening.

Step 7

Time the Harvest: These mushrooms grow rapidly once they pin. They are ready to pick when the vibrant yellow caps have fully opened up, but before the delicate edges start to dry out or curl upward.

Step 8

Twist and Pull: Gently grasp the entire striking bouquet right at the base, twist, and pull it cleanly off the block. Keep misting the opening to encourage a second radiant flush!
